How to play Snake

Take a moment with Snake before moving to another game. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Use the example below to understand a decision. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Build familiarity through play

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Notice the feedback after each input.

What you need to achieve

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

The playing sequence

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Using the playing area

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

Learn from a sample situation

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Choose a deliberate next step.

Keep this in mind

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Check the rule before repeating the action. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
